Chinese Catholics still in PRC government control

By Jerome Lai 095168

The PRC government still controls the Catholic Church in China, the Vatican City do not have much rights and power to preach in Mainland, Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-Kiun said.

“Both official and underground Church in China is in a very bad situation,” said Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-Kiun, who focuses on Catholic development in Mainland China, after retired from Bishop of Hong Kong in 2009.

Chinese government official would check the Church regularly and create its own Bishop. Zen said, “It never happens in other countries, all the Catholic Church should administrate by the Roman Catholic.

He said Underground Church in China is very poor, when he visited them, he always bring with money and resource.

“In Mainland, each region has different situations. Some may have enough money, some may poor,” Zen said he needed to check out each region to distribute suitable resources for their needs.

[This article is woefully lacking in details. How does the PRC control the church? Why is the church in such a poor situation? You have good ideas here, but they need to be expanded upon.]
