A veteran pundit urged the Hong Kong people to take actions to pursue democracy. “We should take actions to fight for democracy, but not shout for democracy,” said Hui Ching, the research director of Hong Kong Zhi Ming Institute. Hui said that Hong Kong people should take reference on those successful experiences on those democratic countries in order to make a change in Hong Kong. “For example, Taiwan’s President Election in this year was similar to the District Council Election in Hong Kong last year. Taiwan is a good example for Hong Kong people to take reference on,” he said. Hui said that the major reason of mature democratic system in Taiwan was the high consciousness of Taiwan people in their civic values and high sense of identity. “They have high consciousness in general because of the high transparency of political systems, as well as in both ideological and political values,” he said. He said that Hong Kong and Taiwan’s future political situation would become more serious, which could not be solved by themselves. “They would both face China’s threat in terms of various aspects. It would become a global problem,” he said.
