Financial commentator Chiu Sin Chun, suspected the purpose of the iBond (SEHK: 4208). ((not an adequate lead))

iBond, or the inflation-linked retail bond, which is issued by the government to help the citizen to fight the inflation, will be issue $10 billion again this year due to the latest Budget.

Since the day iBond issue in July 2011, the average price of it is $107. Compare to its issue price $100, each share of it has earned $7 and it has release its interest at around $3 or the rate at 6.08%. Therefore, a lot of financial commentators recommend investors to buy the new iBond at their column. The return seems can help the citizen fight inflation. However Chiu didn’t think this.

“The one who really need help to fight inflation will not have money to buy iBond.” Chiu said. The entry fee of iBond is $10,000, it is not a poor can afford. Chiu questioned who can buy and who pay the interest.

And Chiu is confused about the use of the money collect by iBond. “The $10 billion get back and only put into the saving.” Chiu said the money collect should be having its purpose, “no matter for infrastructure or other things, at least it is a public investment. However, it just collected $10 billion and did nothing. And the taxpayers need to pay for the interest. Why?

To use such a large amount of money need elaboration. But there is no phone-in audiences argue about this.” Chiu said the Hong Kong citizen only focus on the immediate policy like will the government give money to all or the tax return. (((nice elaboration on your angle although it feels a bit longwinded at times...otherwise pretty good))
