The chairman of Lantau Development Alliance said Lantau Island was a potential district for development, but complete equipment and facilities were necessary for a further development.

Allen Ha attended an academic talk in Hong Kong Shue Yan University this afternoon. He said the lack of supporting equipment and facilities is the main problem to develop Lantau Island, which was with high developing potential.

Allen Ha, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited, said the AsiaWorld-Expo had brought an Economic gain of nearly HK$13.4 billion. He described the exhibition industry as a catalyst to motivate Hong Kong economy. He said, “It is also an ‘economic motor’ to activate retail, hotel and catering industries.

Ha pointed that poverty and employment mismatch are the main problems on Lantau Island and Tung Chung. He said, “The government should develop Tung Chung into a middle-class tourist spot so that more job opportunities can be created.”

He suggested that the government should make good use of the advantage of Tung Chung. “There were many large-scale campaigns held in AsiaWorld-Expo and tourists love visiting Disneyland. If there could be more hotels and shopping malls, Hong Kong could definitely afford more tourists and bring a further development.” he said.

Han also said the Lantau Development Alliance would continuously study in a neutral, apolitical way and look for the solutions for the problems of job mismatch and poverty in Tung Chung.
