PR head of Community Chest insists the need to purchase bonds.

By Anthony Wong

HKSYU, MAR 13-The Community Chest, the local-based charity, has been using part of its reserve to invest in debt market. Louie Tong, its PR Manager insisted the need to make necessary and conservative investments.

The Community Chest is a charity which raises funds from local citizens for merely local needy. Yet, in a seminar in Shue Yan University, the charity was criticized for its acts to allocate funds for investments.

Tong reassured the extremely low risk of such act.

‘We have set up a team, which is formed by numerous experienced bankers, to hire an investment manager. They also monitor each of his investment decisions,’ explained Tong.

According to Tong, the Community Chest holds a conservative attitude towards any investment decisions. In addition, only a small part of its reserve is allocated in bond market.

‘We make long-term investment by only a small part of our reserves. In the long run, it must be on the uptrend and hence maximizes benevolence of every donor. We would not make use a buck of our donations to cover any investment loss,’ stressed Tong.

‘What’s more, we use our reserves only if the actual amount of donation is less than expected,’ added Tong.

((decent...the writing is pretty strong but the story is lacking the certain something to make it newsworthy...just a little flat. good flow and spacing))
