ViuTV's cancellation of the filming of a reality travel drama had caused a PR disaster because it contradicted with the station's core values and style, said Lotus Choi, a PR specialist.

Choi, XXXXX, was referring to the decision by ViuTV to stop the filming of an episode of the 'Travel with Rivals' in Japan. It featured Wang Dan, former XXXXX, and Billy Fung, XXXXXX. It came after the pair made pro-HK independence remarks at a press con in Tokyo. ViuTV said in a statement they opposed HK Independence.

Speaking at xxxx, Choi said ViuTV's handling of the programme was a total failure.

'Companies should pursue their goals and stick to their path from the beginning to the end... After you managed to get your target audience, it will be a disaster if you make them unhappy."

In her talk, Choi also pointed out PR practitioners should deal with traditional and social media differently. Netizens have their own cultural and political stance, she said.

Using old methods to deal with new problems is a recipe for disaster, Choi pointed out.
