(You seemed to have drawn an incorrect conclusion from Forest's speech. Yes he admitted that the advertisers had the final say on the choice of the cover of his watch magazine. But he was talking only about the specialized magazines, like watch or car or even high-end fashion magazines. Some serious magazines like The Economists has few consumer products advertisements. Some advertisers even refuse to place ads in certain leftist and liberal magazines like Mother Jones. Forest was only talking about specialized magazines.)

Are the contents of media chosen by media themselves? Jack Forest, the Editorial Director of Timesquare (Hong Kong) Co Ltd, said in HKSYU today that the contents of magazines are affected by advertisers the most.


"Capital is a big concern for every media," Forest said. "Advertisements are one of the main source of captial for magazines." He said that if magazines want to survive, it must cooperate with advertisers.


Althouh people will judge the fairness of the contents in smagazines, Forest said he believes the reporters can judge themselves. "Reporters should be able to write a fair, balanced articles," he said.
