Hong Kong's political environment is in a state of chaos recently. Two candidates of the next chief executive, Henry Tang and Leung Chun Ying became mired in scandal. The Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen was suspected to receive interest from tycoons.

“Thick Dark theory is the successful rule to handle those crisis” said a famous scriptwriter Lai Man Cheuk in a talk held by Hong Kong Shue Yan University today. “Thick Dark theory means one should have “thick” face and “dark” heart, being shameless and cunning.” explained by Lai , However, Lai reminded that politicians should pretend to be humble and kind, so that the public would not have an impression that they are crafty. Lai emphasized that humor is not easy to learn. But if it is utilized properly, it can deal with many crises. And it is an efficient methodology in every aspects.

Lai said politics is new to Hong Kong, when comparing with other countries such as Taiwan. He remembered that twenty to thirty years ago, Taiwan did not do well in their president election, but they developed and had held an organized and successful election in January. Lai admitted that Hong Kong politics is very immature; just like those kindergarten students, making mistakes is inevitable.
