Crisis hide opportunity—Frankie Ip

It is always a difficulty for a Public Affairs Manager to tackle problem and crisis under the supervision of journalists and public. Being an experienced Spin Doctor, Ip told us never be a liar.

"When the first lie is told, more lies are needed,” Frankie used the indecent photos of Edison Chan as an example. It’s a good way for him to admit his own false. If he still tell lie under scandal, the incident would turns worse. Frankie said that it ;s a common way for them to persuade the involved person to tell the truth. However, not all the person is willing to follow this way.

Telling truth is a must, how to tell the truth is a skill. “Good packing skill can turn bad news into entirely new look,” Frankie said. In 1986, an America spacecraft exploded after launched and lead to the death of seven astronauts. This shocked all people. At that time, the president announced that the death of astronauts has contributed a lot on the exploration of space. The presidents gave a speech and expressed his pride about their brave of willing to take risk on exploration. This speech gained a lot of support. The crisis turns into an opportunity to praise for their professional and brave. Frankie states that, every crisis can be converted to opportunities under good skill.

Managing crisis is important while the most significant things is to learn from the mistake. Only by accumulating experience and learning, we can avoid the same mistake in the future.
