DAB Moves Towards Public

By Wong Wun Ling, 17/09/2013

Even though digital audio broadcasting (DBA) has started spreading over a wide range, the head of DBC hopes digital radio can "cover 80% of Hong Kong familes."

‘We are going to install 20000 digital radios for Hong Kong taxicabs and minibuses,’ Loh Chan, the Chief Executive Officer of Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC), said. ‘This project will approximately cost 20 million, which allow Hong Kong audiences enjoy radio programs anywhere and anytime.’

The phenomenon of aging of population in Hong Kong is acute. 20 years later, 1 out of every four people will be over 65 years old. ‘We offer a Chinese Opera Channel for the elderly,’ said Loh. ‘We are confident that the graybeard would be willing to accept the new style of DAB . Nowadays, many elderly know how to enjoy their retirement lives and their spending powers are very high.’

For the DBC, this radio station provides totally 7 channels, which includes News Channel, Music Channel, Financial News Channel, School Channel and Ethnic Channel. ‘Different channels have their own target audiences, so that we are able to serve the public in Hong Kong,’ said Loh.
