DBC aims to set up elderly channel

After the Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC) shareholder argument, Bill Wong Cho-bau became the biggest shareholder of DBC and Loh Chan became CEO. Loh said he would develop a news channel, under loads of competition, he said "Content is the King".


Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) became a trend these days, and DBC has 7 channels among all DAB channels in Hong Kong and the 7th channel started broadcasting yesterday. And due to the aging problem in Hong Kong, there are more than 1 million people over 65 years old. Loh said the society should concern elders' retired life and DBC aimed to develop channel 7 as elderly channel,in order to serve them. People may question if the elderly have money to buy the DAB radio, Loh said: "Don't look down on elderly spending power."


The other target listeners of DBC are drivers. In order to raise the popularity of DBC among drivers, DBC is going to install 20,000 DBA car radio and some company will join their promotion programme. In the future, DBC will develop a transportation channel, and this channel will not only about transport but also social life, just like radio in Beijing and Guangzhou.


Since the major shareholder of DBC, Bill WoLoh Chan,is member of National Commissar of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,people may worry the independence of editing and reporting in DBC. Loh said, DBC would report fairly, which is the most core value of DBC.
