Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC), which was shut down for 3 months, has now resumed operations with 7 channels after the approval of equity changes by the Communications Authority.

The Chief Executive of DBC, Stephen Loh Chan, said one of the news initiative of the station is to launch a 24-hour news channel.

Loh says, ‘We used to purchase news from other media, for example Now TV, but we found that it is worth for us to establish our own news channel. Its programing cost is about $20000, which is the cheapest among all the channels.’

‘The aim of the news channel is to be fair and balance. We will include the opinions from all areas and do more in-depth reports. We will let audience to judge the essential of the news.’ Loh said.

Wong Chor Biu, who is the member of the national committee of CPPCC, has been approved to increase his shareholders to 99.6 percent. ‘To avoid the problem of censorship and maintain the fairness, Wong will not enter the Board of Directors, but remain as a role of investors.’

Loh is rumored to poach the experienced journalists from the Hong Kong Economic Journal.

‘We have recruited a number of well-known journalists with good reputation, in an inexplicit way. Yet, they need time to jump ship. In the meantime, our existing staffs, who are not that experienced, will be kept training and practicing.’ said Loh.
