DBS ready to resume 7 channels, said Loh the new CEO

The new CEO of DBC Loh Chan announced that 7 radio channels have put into service since yesterday, amid a relaunch after a dispute with co-founder Albert Cheng King Hon.


Loh, who used to work for Sing Pao which was said to be a Beijing loylist media, said DBC will aim to play a neutral role to produce programme and news in an objective and impartial way as to avoid pursuading the public to any political side. The largest shareholder of DBC is Beijing loyalist Bill Wong Cho-bau.


“We are not Wen Wei Po, Da Gong Bao or Apple Daily,” said Loh.


At a talk at Shue Yan University , Loh said DBC is preparing to have a news department for producing programme for 24 hours news channel, news hour. Which is there is no self producing news programme in the former DBC founded by Cheng.


“The budget for producing news is reasonable and competitive” said Loh.


“It costs 60thousand to 100 thousand to make one episode of a TV progrmmme for one hour. But it costs only 20 to 30 thousand for news production for an hour programme. If we count it as all day 24 hours new production. It’s still much reasnably cheaper than making programme. We think this is worth to investigate in.” said Lok.


DBC as the city’s first digital radio broadcaster, Lok said it is just one of the kind in the electronic media . Though there is difference on the format, the content is more or less the same kind.


After selling the stake to Wong, Cheng said up his new online radio station, D100 with many former DDB staff. After several months D100 gained quite a number of suppports from audiences and receive high ranking on online browser like Google and Yahoo. Loh said onlinr radio station is quite popular for nowsdays as electronic media is quite common for everyone. So the only weakness of D100 is just without the broadcasting licesnse to gain a wider pool of auidences. He forcasted that won’t be a problem for online radio station as the eltronic media is getting more mature in coming few years.


Facing the intense competion between online radio , Loh said DBC wil make use of advantage of having a broadcasting licenses to gain the critical mass in the coming two to three years. Though this is not an unfavourable factor, DBC will try to further developonline elerontice media like apps and website to gain more loyalty audience.
