Big data was vital in the development of a society, all sectors relied the data to find out trends and do research in different ways.

“Cookies are still not personal data in Hong Kong,” Arthur Chan, the Chief Operating Officer at Vpon Big Data Group said at a Hong Kong Shue Yan University forum yesterday. The biggest problem of cookies was every time when people open a new browser,it would create cookies, but the lifetime of cookie only last for 14 to 30 days, some people even clear cookies in a regular basis, therefore no need to worry too much, he said.

“Data collected from social media is more accurate” he said. Most of the companies chose to use social media to collect data, because the accuracy was way higher than the old ways such as given out coupons to attract people participated in the focus group, he said.

“The surveillance by government is not enough in some business sectors in Hong Kong,”he said. Comparing to the mainland China, the surveillance of cosmetic surgery in Hong Kong by the government was not enough. In mainland China, government had highly attention on the surveillance of cosmetic surgery. Chan pointed out a case that in mainland China, a women searched the information about cosmetic surgery and she did not recognise that was an advertisement and sadly she was injured in the clinic. Because of this case, government had banned all the advertisements that related to cosmetic surgery, he added.

Arthur Chan is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Vpon Big Data Group, who monitors the APAC markets including China, Hong Kong, Japan, SEA and so on. He has committed himself to maintaining the sustainable development of the industry, upholding the “give-and-take” spirit – to build a long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationship with its clients, partners and Vpon. He pushes forward company’s collaboration with Asia-Pacific media such as The New York Times, Qunar.com and Camera360. --165054 2019年1月22日 (二) 19:01 (CST)
