Don’t give up your dream, William said

The age of 19 is a golden period for an adolescent, when he enters the university and begins being an adult. Nevertheless, William Chan, Executive Director of Hong Kong Youth Exchange Promotion United Association, had lost his memory when he was a 19-year-old after a car accident. He said that it was a terrible tragedy and he even tried to commit suicide, when he attended a university talk yesterday.

Before having a car accident, William was excellent both in studies and behaviour at school. He was the chairman of student union in Kowloon Wah Yan College in 2001. William also revealed that he got the award of Hong Kong Outstanding Student in that year. He had a bright future originally. Nevertheless, when William studied in England, he got into a car accident.

“When I was cycling to the school, I crashed by two cars. The doctor diagnosed me that had loss of memory for events immediately following a trauma. I had lost all of 19 years memory. So, I came back Hong Kong. I remember that I was very afraid for my future at that moment,” said William.

William thought going into spasm or vomit were small cases. The unknown future was a nightmare to him. Because of losing his memory, he described him as a plain paper. He illustrated that the sexual identity, spiritual identity and cultural identity made him so confused.

“One day, around 3am, I wanted to commit suicide. However, I did not know whether it was coincidence or blessing from the God, a friend phoned me at 4am. He comforted me that not have a maggot in my head, said William.

After that, William started to join a lot of volunteer work over the sea. “It helped me to find the values of life. I can have a time of contemplation and broaden the horizon.”

It was luckily that William’s effort provided him a path to enter Lingnan University. Now, William operates a youth exchange promotion association in Hong Kong. He hopes that he can be a model in a bid to encourage the teens to achieve their dreams, instead of giving up.

{Good lead. Strong, and clear, if a bit lackluster. You clearly indicate the topic and focus of the article, but do not provide very compelling reasons for the reader to forge ahead.]
