The soap opera “When Heaven Burns” has arose a lot of discussion about its sensitive content. At the same time, it also reflects that the other soap operas in Hong Kong are with bad qualities and even have plagiarized dramas of the other countries. Ho Yuet Fung, a senior screenwriter said today in Shue Yan University that plagiarism is actually very common in Hong Kong’s soap opera.

There are increasing complains of Hong Kong soap operas coping the ideas of dramas from other countries. Ho said the plagiarism actually appears many years ago, yet the convenience of watching other dramas from the Internet created a misconception that the plagiarism is increasing. “In the past, they (Hong Kong soap opera creators) even copy the shots and dialogue, nearly everything is the same.” Said Ho.

Ho appreciates the soap opera “When Heaven Burns”, and thinks that this drama can broaden the categories of Hong Kong dramas. Yet she thinks that these sensitive drama should not be broadcast at a golden time zone, as children, who can’t afford these contents may also watched it. “In other countries, though there are also sensitive content dramas, yet these dramas will not be broadcast within a golden time zone.”
