(You have chosen a good theme for the report but you also have misled us into thinking that grammar is not that important. Dr. Wallace does not think Chinese is going to replace English, but to replace English as what? Of course he didn't mean to replace English so that everyone in the US or Britain will speak Chinese instead. What he meant was Chinese will not replace English as the world's most popular language.)

“When we speak, we speak to the level of the audience.”Dr. Steve Wallace, founder of Wallace Academic Editing summarized his teaching experience for the past 10 years in Taiwan. He also pointed out the usage of English in Hong Kong, Taiwan ad the Mainland’s students.

Grammar is less vital than function

Most of the Chinese students learn English by reading grammar books, schools focus on teaching grammar than daily usage. Dr. Wallace believed speakers can say everything they like, as long as the others are able to understand. Fussy words and accurate grammar should only be concerned in academic journals since they will bring more impact and reputation. He quoted Abraham Lincoln that our word should be understood by everyone and difficult words should be avoided. He himself read a lots of junior and senior form textbooks to adjust the wording he used in his lecture.

Chinese will not replace English easily

Many foreigners are learning Putonghua or Cantonese, but Dr. Wallace does not think Chinese is going to replace English, at least in his life time. Academic journals or research papers are still written in English. Chinese words are not easy to write, learn and read in his opinion, so people are still going into English favour. He mentioned that it works very well in teaching in English in his class so some of his Taiwanese students may not find it difficult to learn in English other than their mother tongue.
