(Your lead is good. The last sentence in your lead could be rewritten as "....the progress of a society, an observation made by the founder of the paper – Lam Shan Muk in his column when the paper debuted in 1973." What do you think? When you said "Chan sees this trend as due to the increasing ties of normal citizens and the particular type of news, hence making it ever prominent", I don't quite actually know what you mean. When you mention MPF, you should at least explain a little about how it functions and how is it tied to financial market investment. You wrote that "Intense coverage of Economic and Financial news is challenged to be of primarily importance in the hyperactivities in various investment markets", but I think the meaning doesn't come out strong and clear enough. How about intensive coverage of...... is blamed by most as the cause of market hyperactivies...? Your report is well structured and you should work on your choice of words to make your story more concise and comprehensive. )

Economic and Financial News indicates society progress 25/9/2012

Being in the field of Economics and Financial news for 1/4 of the century, Tim Chan, the Executive Chief Editor of Hong Kong Economic Journal thinks Economic and Financial News is important as it indicates the progression of a society as said by the founder of the paper – Lam Shan Muk in the first commentary of the paper in 1973.

He recalled when Hong Kong Economic Journal first started 39 years ago, the paper had only 4 pages most of the time and occasionally 6. Economic and Financial News were just budding and did not gain much of a market. 40 years later, all media, both printed and non-printed, have channels specifically dedicated to Economic and Financial News. Chan sees this trend as due to the increasing ties of normal citizens and the particular type of news, hence making it ever prominent.

Chan has pointed out that Hong Kong citizens, in the course of these years are motivated to give more attention towards Economic and Financial news as to the introduction of the Mandatory Provident Fund and citizens would concern on how their savings are being invested, especially those retired. When people start to care about investments, Economic and Financial news would therefore have the market.

Intense coverage of Economic and Financial news is challenged to be of primarily importance in the hyperactivities in various investment markets. Chan responds with a doubt. He has raised suicidal reports as an example in illustrating whether it’s because of the excessive suicidal reports that lead to the mounting of suicidal cases or indeed the reports are merely reflecting the reality. He admitted that undoubtedly all day Economic and Financial news should have to certain extent motivated investors. Yet, one just could not consider this as the major attribute.
