Hong Kong, April 3 - Undoubtedly, smartphone is ruling the world, bringing convenience and efficiency to human, but it also arouses some privacy problems, the Digital Development Editor of SCMP, Stephen Quinn, showed agreement in an assembly of HKSYU today.

As technology gets advanced, more devices and applications are invented, intending to give us convenience, however, Stephen said it may also cause some privacy problems, for example, we may become the victims of sneak shooing.

Stephen said, “ There are many applications for users to take sneak shots. For example, when you see a person use his/her mobile phone to read, you may have already been shot secretly.” He added that there is even an application pretending to be a calculator, but actually, it is also a sneak shooting application.

Sneak shooting applications are widespread, and they may be used for unlawful purpose. As it’s not easy to see whether a person is taking photos, Stephen said some people use the applications to shoot girls’ underclothes, and there are cases reported.

Although privacy is threathened when technology gets advanced, there is no doubt that technology brings us advantages. Stephen took an example of journalism industry. “All we need is a smartphone, then everyone can report,” he said. “Because of the advancement of mobile technology, mobile journalism is created. It facilitates the whole industry by lowering the cost of reporting a news and also speeding it up.”
