Everyone concerns human rights but how can they be protected? The Director of Human Rights Monitor, Law Yuk Kai said, “Hong Kong lacks a department to deal with human rights.”

Law criticized that the governmental departments do not have responsibilities for concerning human rights. “The government has no financial budgets for human rights and no education on human rights,” he said. He thought a special department for human rights should be established.

He stated that The Legislative Council also lacks representative because only 30 out of 60 seats are selected by the public. “They are hard to represent the public and check on the human rights effectively.” Law expressed.

He mentioned that Hong Kong is a focus in the United Nations. When Hong Kong has problems on human rights issues, the committee members would like to listen and give a hand. He said, “It’s an advantage to Hong Kong.” But in long run, Hong Kong should establish a department for human rights.
