Jack Forest, the editorial director of “Timesquare” magazine, a luxury watch magazine, said this Tuesday in Shue Yan that expensive niche magazine are unaffectected by the declining sales of magazines.

As the overall sales in the magazine market is declining, it can be assumed that the luxury magazine would suffer the most as the market is small.

“Our readers are very loyal, those who brought to day will keep on buying,” said Forest, who also worked for “Esquire” a men’s fashion magazine.

Forest revealed that the secret behind this stability being the exquisite niche that magazines like Timesquare has, which is to provide insider-industrial-off the scope type of information to the readers. “And they (the readers) depend on it!” Forest said.

Forest also acknowledged that the journalism is not being favored in Hong Kong. “Investors never make profit sorely from their media sector, the more copies we sold the more our boss lost,” Forest reported.

Forest remarked, jokingly “Then about being a reporter, you will have to be dumb enough to be one,” Forest added “the wage level is never risen, the requirements are high, you have to know everything and be analytical…” Forest concluded that he is still in the business for it is where he can dream, and apparently, only “dumb” people dream at their work place.
