Morality is not considered in technological development, says a robot company founder who cooperates with Chinese technology giants which were accused as “cybersecurity threats”.

“There is no crime in innovative and technology development, the only consideration is how to break through the technological obstacles,” said Mark Mak Hin Yu, founder of Roborn Dynamics Limited, in a talk held by Shue Yan University.

Mak said moral is the responsibility of users instead of the designers and technicians, he argued “a vehicle designer would never expect the drivers use it as a weapon to cause death”.

According to Reuters, Czech cyber watchdog warned network operator that Huawei and Zhongxing Telecommunications Equipment Corporation (ZTE) pose a security threat, which these two telecoms equipment may be used by China government for spying.

Mak said he was not involving in the infrastructure building of Huawei and ZTE, therefore he had no comment on the reported monitoring and tracking applications in the companies’ telecom devices.

Roborn Dynamics Limited introduced the first 5G robots in China last year, which can be controlled by human motions.

Mak said he do not worry their robots will be taken as military usage.

He said the industry should adopt the strategy of consolidating their software development in Hong Kong, and hardware producing in the Greater Bay Area.
