Woo Kwok-hing, the only person who has officially announced that wants to take part in the upcoming Chief Executive election, said he was confident to get enough nomination by pan-democracy at Shue Yan University assembly.

Woo said he was pleased to see that pan-democracy camp took quarter of seats on Election Committee.

"Pan-democracy camp could only support me as I am the only candidate who did not tell a lie," he said.

"If they do not vote for me, anyone else they could vote for?" he asked.

Chief Executive contender Woo Kwok-hing vowed he would persuade Beijing to let Hong Kong vetting mainland immigrants arriving the city through the one-way permit system. Speaking at Shue Yan University’s general assembly on Tuesday, the outspoken contender said he would tackle the highly contentious issue step-by-step. The one-way permit allows up to 150 mainlanders settle in Hong Kong on a daily basis on the ground of family reunion. However, the permit is issued by the mainland authorities. The administration in Hong Kong has no control over who qualifies settling in the city. Calls on Hong Kong vetting the immigrants intensifies in recent years. “To begin with, we can ask the Central Government to let us decide the criteria of 50 immigrants. We can use this quota that we can control to attract talents the city needs. Gradually, we ask the Central Government to let us vet all the immigrants coming under the one-way permit arrangement,” Woo said.
