Financial commentator thinks iBond is not worth to issue

“I really do not understand why it seems that no one against to issue iBond, I think this is not the best measure to help the underclass,” senior finance commentator Chiu Sin Chun of Now TV said.

John Tsang, the Hong Kong Financial Secretary, announced the government would issue HK $10 billion iBond this year again in the latest Budget. Community generally welcomes iBond, however Chiu Sin Chun deems that it is meaningless to issue iBond,” the point of issuing a bond is to get more fund or money for further investments, but our government only save the money in the Treasury,” he explained.

He also judged that iBond cannot help the citizens who really need to fight inflation. “The entry fee of iBond is $10,000. They do not have enough money to buy iBond, I believe just the bourgeois can bear. ” Chiu said.

iBond is the inflation-linked retail bond that issue by the government to help the citizens to fight the continuous inflation, which carry three years maturity and offer a biannual payout with the inflation in the past six months. Since iBond has issued in July 2011, each share of it has earned $7 and the rate at 6.08%. The return attracted a lot of citizen to buy last year.
