In Hong Kong, free newspapers become popular. Different from other countries, there are more than three free newspaper exist in such a small region. But how is the prospect of this kind of media in Hong Kong? Hong Kong Shue Yan University held a seminar titled “The Development of the Free Daily in Hong Kong” yesterday. The founder of AM730 Media Limited, one of the free daily in Hong Kong, Shik Wing Ching attended and gave a speech.


Shik, as an investor, does think free daily could get a more important place than traditional daily. That is why he established AM730 Media Limited few years ago. He thinks free daily have a significantly future, as he notices the readers, especially the youngsters, are changing their favor. They are more willing to approach free media due to their style and content.


There are mainly three points about the differences between AM730 and traditional daily. Apart from traditional, the priority of the news in AM730 is according to the important and influence to public. So even the international news can be located at the front page of a newspaper.


Besides, another success key for Shik is the special column. Not only there are many special columns in AM730, but also located in dissimilar pages. Shik emphasizes special column is a treasure that gain loyal readers group, so it should be placed dispersedly. It is a big difference comparing with the traditional newspaper.


As a result, the typesetting is more flexible and make variation as well. So, it is able to attract readers, advertisers and even investors.


The future plan of AM730, Shik aims at qualitative readers rather than the quantitative of readers. Also he intends to improve the content of the newspaper.


At last, Shik thinks all the journalism students could become famous or achieve distinction around the world as they can get a chance to interview the head of the state. He also encourages they should have a broad and long-ranged of view which change the world by their own effort.
