Freedom of Speech is Sprouting in China

China has a strict control over journalists, media can only work under the shadow of the government. However, David Schlesinger, the Chairman of Thomson Reuters China, believed that the degree of press freedom is improving in China.


“Comparing with the situation during 1989 the Tiananmen protest, the freedom of reporting in China is having a positive changing, and the progress of improvement won’t end,” said David Schlesinger.


He explained that nowadays some mainland newspapers would report sensitive stories. Besides, the numbers of Weibo users hit 300 million, people in mainland China tend to give out their opinion through the internet like Weibo recently."It is a place for people to exchange their views and opinions. People are talking about variety topics on Weibo, including those sensitive issues,” he said. ((received))
