The coming decade is an important period for the development of Hong Kong political democracy. Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam Sui-lung said.

In 2008 to 2012, the main job is to construct a new Election Committee which is responsible for electing the Chief Executive now. It should consider what the condition of becoming the committees, how many committees needed. In 2017, the function of the members would be changed to nominate the candidates of Chief Executive.

Lam also claimed that, to work it out is the best way to increase the sense of the public about universal suffrage. The public will be more aware of the politics through the participation, and it is also essential to improve political nomination system and provide more opportunities for the public to participate in politics.

Lam stated that he supports DBA, and he responded that the government allows officials have an orientation, but his view does not represent the view of government. He thought that the government needs to gain support and cooperate with different political party.
