Have you ever been asked “was that funny” after telling jokes? Indeed, media specialist Lai Man Cheuk had such experiences. “I had been asked was that funny by others for 7 years,” he said.

Being a scriptwriter, he needed to come up with new and creative ideas all the time. “I always need to think up new ideas to make the audience laugh in a sense of humor,” he said. Through many years of experience, he now had a new thinking method in creating new ideas.

“Humor is interlinked with creativity,” he stressed. He mentioned that to be humorous, we must create something which touches the emotional feeling of the others. He continued, “This makes a qualitative piece of work. Make the emotional value your basis when creating; it will make affection after all.”

He took the upcoming new television channel Citi Telecom (CTI) as an example, he said, “Ricky Wong is someone who made good use of emotional touch,” he commented that Ricky made the public to feel that he had taken most of the talented scriptwriters from TVB, but actually, only 5 % of scriptwriters was lost.

“Such a loss is normal during the time of arrival of a new television channel,” he continued, “so, think about the emotional touch all the time. You will make an impact on the audience, just like what Ricky Wong did.”
