When a dish was passed by a waiter, people will immediately use their mobile

to take a snapshot before they eat. Photos are then being shared on different

social network like Instagram or Facebook. To hit the trend, Openrice.com is

going to establish a new app called ‘opensnap’ next month. Ray Chung, Founder

of OpenRice.com said today in Shue Yan University that the new apps can be used

as a platform to share photos of different kinds of food.

Ray said, he is hoping to see an app full of ‘delicious photos’, so they will

do central approval to avoid users upload unrelated pictures. He said, ‘we always

do central approval for every single review in order to make sure it is reliable.’

He said all reviews had to go throw screening by the computer system and the editor

from the company. However, he claimed that it is sometimes controversial to

distinguish whether a review is reliable or not, for example when there are some

famous bloggers being invited by the restaurant are generally more willing to write

good comments for it.

OpenRice is a food and restaurant guide website which initially launched in HonKong

has now operated also in Macao, China, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

As of July 2012, the Hong Kong version has over 40,000 registered restaurants, 530,000

diners and over 572,000 ratings and comments.
