Scott Robinson, spokesman of the U.S. Consulate General, said the development of social media does not only change the way people communicate, different countries also use it as a way to release information. He believes that there are pro and cons in operating a social networking site.

He sad that the Facebook page for the U.S. Consulate General, has received a lot of negative message. Some people do not like the U.S. government, and some of them also criticized. But as a government agency, we should respect the freedom of speech, and should delete the negative comments.

He also said that during a national crisis or accident, government departments can instantly release related news and updates though social networking sites really quickly.
