After the government released a statement further explaining its decision on free TV license applications, Ricky Wong’s firm is still not awarded a free-to air TV license.

“We are not as poor financial support as the consultation report said” said Ricky Wong Wai- Kay, the chairman of HKTV. By comparing the assets of three competitors for free-to-air broadcast license, iCable only got 50 million dollar, PCCW was still with twenty billon debt on hand. But for Wong’s firm, HKTV still got twenty something billion cash on hand. “The government is reluctant to mention about the ranking and what is the problem with our financial support, like cash on hand, Profit and loss. “ said Wong.

“If not as much financial support from a parent company as the other competitors is the major reason to turn down us, the government is just discouraging youngsters to start up their business in Hong Kong” said Wong.

“I can be 99% guaranteeing the rejection to give the TV license to HKTV is not under pressure of the central government. The mainland China is not that closed thinking.” said Wong. He quote National People’s Congress standing committee member Rita Fan Hsu Lai-Tai words that she have never heard about any opinion about turning down HKTV from the Central government.

After the announcement of being rejected to have a free-to-air TV license for HKTV, one screenwriter from HKTV decided to work for TVB again.

“I may shut down the HKTV project and lay off all stuff if there is no further sound reasonable feedback and action from the government in coming 3 to 6 months ” said Wong.
