HKTV plans to set satellites at over 300 rooftops in Hong Kong

Jan 28, 2014 by Tang Hoi Ling

Hong Kong Television Network (HKTV) is going to launch the mobile television in July, but they failed to negotiate new leases with TVB to share the sites and facilities of the transmission stations. Yet, Chairman of HKTV, Mr. Ricky Wong Wai Kay said HKTV has come up with a technical solution for their impending lost of transmission towers.

Mr. Ricky Wong Wai Kay and News Controller, HKTV News Department, Earnest Li said they planed to set satellites at over 300 rooftops in Hong Kong to ensure signal reception, a similar technology used by mobile data provider CSL and 3. “We will be fine without TVB’s transmission towers, and HKTV will have better transmission than TVB or ATV.” Wong added.

The mobile TV plans to launch three to five channels in July, including a 24-hour news channel. Wong said their marketing position is not to compete with TVB. “ We are not going to capture the younger generation, that I believe is disconnected from (no longer watches) TVB,” Wong emphasized. But Ricky Wong hopes his company can have better quality and comprehensive news reporting skills with fair judgments.
