HK Gas Co. PR’ head: “Put my heart at the right place”

Once a social worker and a reporter, Ms SY Wong, now is the CC MgR of HK and China Gas Co., have worked in totally different fields before she was 30. That was because Ms Wong promised herself before she had graduated in university, “The world are so big and I can’t keep myself at the same place, before 30, I should work in a completely different field!”

Ms SY Wong career path drew most journalism students curiosity on the Weekly Seminar, that students wondered the reason Ms Wong quitted HKAA and Cable News. “It just happened. Some said my experience in media and social field would help me a lot, but it’s not that case for me. I think the most important thing I learned from the previous training, is that, put my heart in the right place!” She added the travel to and from airport wasted her time a lot while she was working for HKAA, which lessened her time with daughter and family for sure is one of her consideration.

HK and China Gas Co. as the public organization and monopoly business, Ms Wong agreed that they have a great responsibility to reward the society as far as the company have profits made. “We seldom advertise ourselves as we rather pour the money into the society to help those in need. And we have a department to associate with district council which they would assist us to find the target to help and to handle accidental case” said Ms Wong.

However, the good relationship with council members raised people worries of hiding something behind when there is an incident. Ms Wong replied firmly with a “No” and said council members had done a great help to them and the public understanding each other.

Whatever being a PR or a press, Ms Wong suggest student to know more social affairs as stick-holders communications would be the future trend of all companies and should also put our heart in the right place.
