Hao Don’t Agree Citizen Nomination

By Cheung Yik

Hao Tie Chuan said, “I don’t agree with the citizen nomination, political party nomination or any assurance of candidate qualifications, except the nomination committee which meets the needs of all parties.”

Hao Tie Chuan, Director-General of Department of Publicity, Cultural and Sports Affairs Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong, attended a talk in Shue Yan University this afternoon. He insisted that the nomination system of nomination committee could not be changed. He used the saying of “All roads lead to Rome” to explain that all methods and suggestions are leading to a final goal, democ racy in Hong Kong.

He opposed citizen nomination and other forms of nomination because they don’t have a legal ground. “Only the person who obeys the Basic Law and the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China has the qualifications of being the Chief Executive of HK,” Hao restated. He claimed that law and democracy should not be separated.
