Hao Tie Chuan, ‘Hong Kong Is Not An Independent Sovereign State’

by Wong Wun Ling, Jessie│26th November, 2013

Hao Tie Chuan said Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China, not an independent sovereign state, and therefore cannot copy the universal suffrage programs from other countries.

‘The universal suffrage in Western countries is not stereotyped. We should not put on the uniform fits-all answer,’ said Hao, the Director-General of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR.

Hao pointed out that the nomination committee system should waver. ‘The candidate qualifications and candidate nomination system in each country is not the same,’ said he. He also showed disapproval to the citizens nomination or party nomination for ensuring that certain factions of the gates of the "stables theory."

He believes the laws of universal suffrage proposed by Li Fei, including the rights to vote, the right to be elected and the unrestricted right to nominate as well as the fair and reasonable system, are in line with the general elections internationally. ‘Since there is no real difference, there is no need to look for so-called international standards of Western experts to design programs,’ said Hao.
