Hong Kong government spent over 10 million for innovation and technology, but entrepreneurs need to spend the budget first and write a report to claim money after a period of time, said Tang.

“Compare to other countries, Hong Kong spent more budget to develop innovation and technology,” said the CEO of Petostar Technology Limited Jackson Tang at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, “however, the entrepreneurs can’t use the budget actually”. He said entrepreneurs need to spend money on their own before they can claim the budgets, and they have to write a report after finishing the projects.

“It’s so strange that if you are able to spend the budget then you explain to the government to claim the money,” Tang said. He said the process lack an organisation to be a guarantor for entrepreneurs borrowing a loan.

He said Hong Kong can work with other countries, especially China to develop innovation and technology. “If a country has no interactions with other countries, there is no big data to support the operation of artificial intelligence,” Tang said. He said Greater Bay Area is a good chance for entrepreneurs to develop businesses. “The characteristics of talents in different countries are different, such as China and Japan good at creating electronic screens,” he said.

“It’s not about a country use its weakness to compare with other countries’ strength,” he said, “you can work with other countries but not being a leader”. He said Hong Kong can cooperate with strong countries to better the development of innovation and technology.

Entrepreneurs don’t have enough budget to startup a company can seek help in Kickstarter, said Kenneth Chau, a President of Technology Incubation Network. “If you have a good idea, you can upload a video to Kickstarter platform to promote and get funding by donators,” Chau said.

Chau said it is hard for people to turn an idea to a product. “Youngsters need to find a capable company to match with his ideas and produce the products,” he said. He said before a company or a person invest a product, it is important to know the background of the founder and see comments online after users using the products. “You need to know the product is it worthwhile to invest before you decided to support,” Chau said.

Kickstarter is an American public-benefit corporation based in Brooklyn, New York and set up in 2009. It maintains a global crowdfunding platform focused on creativity and merchandising. The company's stated mission is to ‘help bring creative projects to life’.

The ‘Greater Bay Area’ refers to the Chinese government's plan to link the cities of Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan and Zhaoqing into an integrated economic and business centre.

Big data means extremely large data sets that may be analysed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially relating to human behaviour and interactions.
