Hong Kong’s current publication strongly relys on talents in the future, says Vice-chairman and president of Sino United Publishing

The publication in Hong Kong serves as a bridge for foreign countries to develop its publication market in mainland; however, Dr. Chan Man-hung stated Hong Kong is losing its advantages of publication and should count on the talents in the future in so to maintain publication.

“Hong Kong is a tiny place, publication can merely be developed,” Chan said, “Current publication is facing challenge.” He mentioned the rise of electronic media poses threat to publication since people have a variety of choices nowadays. He explained people can choose to browse online information instead of printed information.

In response to worries that electronic publication will replace the traditional printed publication, Chan said, “One day, electronic might take over printed publication, yet we still have a transition period.” He explained such phenomenon will be a challenge to the journalists since it’s difficult to keep the traditional publication and face an unknown developing electronic publication industry at the same time.

“It’s important for a city to have publication,” Chan stated, “It can help a city to develop.” He deplored city with no publication since it cannot reveal its culture. He stated Hong Kong publication exits with the development of both books and media. He showed the characteristics of local publication are that it’s international and unique.

Though Hong Kong is unfavorable in tangible terms, but he stated talents in Hong Kong can be the advantages for printed publication in the future. “I hope the future of publication won’t be measured in commercial means,” he regarded this will be the bottom line of publication.
