“Hong Kong Audio Visual industry is full of limitation, and it is dying.” said HUI Sharon, a senior script-writer.

HUI said most of the time Hong Kong Audio Visual industry could not touch deep into political and cultural aspects due to the limitation. In addition, structural problem and lack of new blood intensify the decline of the local industry. Adversely, she said that the growth of Beijing’s Audio Visual industry make them becoming more competitive in the market, thanks to their rich cultural atmosphere and freedom of speech. HUI said that China’s production of TV program has already reached 15000 hours per year, which put them in a very strong position comparing to Hong Kong.

HUI said that even permitting more new comers in the TV industry would not be beneficial in raising the quality of the industry. She said the market in Hong Kong is limited and lack of support from sponsors. “Working in the local TV stations is a difficult job. The script-writers have to obey the wants of the boss, resulting in lack of creativity and out-standing themes” said HUI.

HUI suggested Hong Kong Audio Visual industry should have a comprehensive revolution. She said the industry should get rid of traditional system and adds in the power of teenagers.
