The construction world’s largest exhibition center will be completed this year, and it allows Shenzhen’s economy remain ahead of Hong Kong next year, an expert of Great Bay Area says.

“Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, a key project of Shenzhen’s development plan, will be the world’s largest exhibition center,” Rocky Yu, the founder, and director of QianHai Gangjunda Shenzhen Business Service Co Ltd. said at an assembly of Shue Yan University.

Yu said since this world’s largest exhibition center assist Shenzhen becoming a trade and transport hub, it would help Shenzhen thrive and expand.

“Apart from infrastructure, simply referring to the GDP of both Shenzhen and Hong Kong in 2018, the economy of Shenzhen grow ahead of Hong Kong,” Yu said.

Hong Kong economy surpassed by Shenzhen for the first time in 2018. Hong Kong’s gross domestic product (GDP) ) last year, just rose by 3 percent to HK$2.85 trillion, however, economic growth in Shenzhen grew by 7.6 percent to HK$2.87 trillion.

Yu said that hi-tech sector companies, such as Huawei and Tencent in Shenzhen, became the engine driver for the growth of Shenzhen’s GDP.

“Entrepreneurs in Hong Kong had been eclipsed by Chinese entrepreneurs, since many of them entered the international market, and even listed in US stock market in recent years,” Yu said.

“It is mostly because Hong Kong’s entrepreneurs are being short-sighted and their positionings are narrow,” Yu added.

He said that Hong Kong companies often positioned themselves in the Hong Kong market, which only included 7 million people. However, it is the era of the global village now, companies should have an international positioning.

“There is a high rate of failure in starting a business among youngsters. According to research, the average age of a successful startup founder is 45, so I suggest young people in Hong Kong should start a business with middle-aged people,” Yu said.

“They may take the “bao tuan” method of the mainland Chinese entrepreneurs as a reference to start a business with experiences of senior entrepreneurs,” he added.

Yu was the former director of Junhui Shenzhen Commercial Services Co., Ltd. He had assisted more than 200 factories to raise funds successfully. Also, he has an in-depth understanding of Chinese business operations and models.
