A Hong Kong entrepreneur who has 20 years experiences in innovation and technology industry (I&T industry) said Hong Kong should import skilled immigrants to fill the vacancy in the industry.

Kenneth Chau Kin-wang, the chairman of Technology Incubation Network (TIN) in Hong Kong Science & Technology Park, said “he definitely agrees on the quality migrant Admission scheme proposed by the government. “

Chau has referred the career chose of the fresh graduated in Hong Kong Polytechnic University to support his stance.

“Only less than 5% fresh graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University would choose to work in the I&T industry. It is distinctly not enough and unhealthy for the entire industry. And that’s why we need professional immigrates,” said Chau.

Chau claims importing immigrates to I&T industry would not affect the employment opportunity of locals, but only help and fill the manpower shortage in I&T industry.

Apart from that, Chau has mentioned the Hong Kong government’s funding scheme on start-up I&T company is weird, which funding people in need after they have completed whole content of their start-up proposal.

“They would not apply for the government funding if they could achieve their proposal without the funding, the bureau should fund the start-up company before they start to realize their idea, otherwise it is so meaningless,” said Chau.
