“Hong Kong media ecology can be rally if Media industry is to purchased by the Mainland media group” said Law Yi Ping.
An experienced journalist Law Yee Ping believes the Hong Kong media ecology is affected by Apple Daily and just concern on the commercial benefit. To purchase Hong Kong media industry by the Mainland media enterprises is a way to rally.
“Apple Daily makes reader “retarded”, led the media superficiality orientation” Law said. Apple Daily tends to report some morals, even claque’s news, which is attracting reader, and concern more about “interesting” than “importance” on handling news. Although it exactly against the rule of journalists. As the competition between local newspapers, entire of media industries imitate it and make the media deterioration. Law described this phenomenon as “Apple-ization”.
“Nowadays, the commercial influence on the media is more serious then politic censorship.” Law said. Advertisement business is a big fetter. As the advertisement is source of income of local newspapers and media, therefore the news and the report cannot offend the Advertisement customer. “So it is not strange that the editor “kill” the articles which is disadvantageous towards the advertisement customer”
But the media in the Mainland do not face this problem, As the Mainland has a huge market and audience, the readers are whole population of China and there are lots of advertisement customers, they don’t suffer form commercial bias .Law suggests that the cooperation between the Hong Kong and the Mainland media, even purchased by the Mainland media enterprises, maybe a turning point of Hong Kong media.
Law said, compare with the Mainland journalists, the Hong Kong Journalists are blessed. “There is less opportunity for the mainland journalists to go abroad as the problem of visa, also there are constraints in reporting. Much of politic news must be published by state agency, like Xinhua Agency.”
