High properties price, poor living condition are serious housing problem of Hong Kong. Alvin Cheung, Our Hong Kong Foundation, Senior Researcher said the quality of housing is more important than quantity.

“When comparing with the Mainland, the size of the properties there can equal to the washrooms in Hong Kong,” he said.

Cheung said the the housing units have been kept increasing, however, the Hong Kong government should focus more on the living condition.

Also, Cheung said the infrastructures, such as schools, medical services of public housing should be improved.

When talking about the efficiency of transition housing, Cheung said it is feasible to do so, however he said transition housing is just a short term measure.

He believed that housing planning like Lantau Tomorrow Vision can improve the housing quality of Hong Kong, and it is worth to wait for it.

Moreover, teenagers are trying hard to raise their social status. Cheung said that language is an essential factor.

“If you ask me Chinese or English, which one is more important, I would say both,” he said.

He said Hong Kong has simplified economic system, which depends on financial market and estate only and it makes science and technology innovation difficult to participate in.

He said if teens want to participate in science and technology innovation in both foreign countries and the Mainland, their English and Chinese should be well-trained, so he believed that language is the fundamental factor to their career.
