How the way of eSport development in HK?

Short of venues is the difficult problems of eSports development in Hong Kong. The source says government will have new regulations for e-sports in two or three months.

“The complicated policy lets some e-Sport venues were crack down by police frequently,” the President of Esports Association Hong Kong Yeung Chuen-sing Eric said at Hong Kong Shue Yan University today.

Hong Kong government organized Esport and Music Festival last year. It was a new start of e-Sports in Hong Kong. However, the amusement game center license established around 30 years ago. The license restricts age of the persons under the age of 16 enter the venue. Eric said most of the players and athletes of e-Sports was teenagers, which means it included some people who lower than 16 years old. The license of game center is not suitable for eSports industry nowadays.

“The policy should be update with the times,” Eric said. He indicated that there are not license application special for eSports, Although the law was not yet to update, the Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB) was established in 2015. ITB become a role of communicator between government and eSports’s stakeholder. He said there are designing new policy for eSports. He mentioned government options that the new policy for e-Sports license purpose are promote eSports, not for earn money, and the policy will be release on the coming few months.

Moreover, Eric thinks that Hong Kong is a good place to hold eSport international competition. “Hong Kong have no much experience to promote eSport, but still have high potential to be the place run international eSport event,” Eric said.

He explains that Hong Kong have a good transportation system and long history of tourism development. Also, most of people in Hong Kong have muti-language skill. This is the important element to hold the international eSports events.
