Idol thoughts - 曾刊於《South China Morning Post》

A number of parents disapprove of teenagers idolising pop singers, as they think that they are too immature to spend so much money on merchandise of their idols. True, there are drawbacks to idol worshipping, but some singers may offer positive influences.

Joey Yung Cho-yee put on a spectacular performance at her recent concert. She was extremely charming and attractive. To me, the most fascinating point about her is her serious attitude towards working. Some singers may only stand on the stage, wearing lots of costumes during their performance, and they try to finish it with the minimum effort.

But Joey guaranteed that the audience could enjoy a great night. That's why she tried numerous special things in her show, like performing lots of spectacular moves in mid-air and dancing in the artificial rain, which impressed the audience. She should have felt cold while she was dancing in the rain in the air-conditioned stadium. She was puffing after dancing, but once she started singing, she got her breath back immediately and her voice was still enchanting. We can tell how much she was exhausted.

Her work attitude makes her a great role model. Actually, we should focus more on one's strengths, including work attitude and morality instead of one's physical appearance. Idolising a person is not a terrible thing. But if people follow blindly, spending lots of money on commercial products and paying attention only to their idol's physical appearance, this is a waste of time and resources. So please be a sensible and wise fan.
