Importing labour to meet long term needs

"It's not a bad thing if we import labour to meet the long term needs in Hong Kong, but I don't recommend doing so for just a short term shortage."said Lau Ming-wai, the Vice Chairman of Bauhinia Foundation Research Center in Shue Yan University today.

Due to the fact that Hong Kong is facing an insufficient supply of labour, Lau said importing labour is a feasible way to solve the problem, especially in the construction field. "We can only attract locals to work by offering higher salary if we don't import labour, but the cost raised will transferred to customers."said Lau.

When it's about the problem of population, Lau said Bauhinia suggests the government to encourage Hong Kong people giving birth and encourage them to work. Allowing more immigration is also suggested.
