Improper Pronunciation destroying Image
The famous senior station announcer, Francis Law Wing-kwan stated that the improper pronunciation of Cantonese are destroying the culture in the seminar of Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday.
“The proper pronunciation is a kind of culture, we should keep it and respect on it.” said Law.
Francis Law was a famous station announcer in early 1980’s, and he is now working as a pioneer to improve situation of the improper Cantonese pronunciation in Hong Kong.
Aim to the situation of improper pronunciation in Hong Kong, Law proposed that Cantonese is a part of Chinese cultures, the improper pronunciation means to destroy the culture and also destroy people’s image.
He explained, “Just like a beauty lady, if she wears a white shirt which have a point of ink, the focus point of her will become the point of ink, but not her beauty, the image of her are totally destroyed. People who sound with improper pronunciation are just like the beauty lady, is destroying their image also.”
To improve the habit of improper pronunciation, Law suggested to listen the broadcasts of the senior announcer, since their pronunciation are proper and clear, it helps to learn and sound proper pronunciation.
