Journalists from online media have been refused to carry out reporting duties on coverage of public activities which conducted by government departments, suspecting Information Services Department (ISD) suppressed press freedom. The director of ISD said we do not limit the flow of information.

Only representatives from mainstream news media organizations are allowed to apply for Central Government Offices (CGO) Press Cards to report the government events but not online media.

The director of ISD Wong Chi-cho said, the place of Central Government Office was small, the situation of striving to be first would be emerged if there is no limitation for the media.

“The space of press conferences was limited,” he added.

“ISD would communicate with different stakeholders, aiming to help all the journalists to report,” he said.

Wong said, “the problem is not easy to solve, ISD would make the policy of The Legislative Council for online media for reference.”

Now, the policy of The Legislative Council for the news organizations is that if the news organizations carry original reporting of Legislative Council-related news on a regular basis and have lawfully registered whose principal business is news reporting, and their representatives may be issued with admission passes to conduct news coverage in the Legislative Council Complex.--145088 2017年2月14日 (二) 17:30 (CST)
