The movie “You Are the Apple of My Eye” broke the record of highest box office receipts a Taiwanese movie in Hong Kong. A chairman of an entertainment company said that he was one of the first people who read the script of “You Are the Apple of My Eye”, but he didn’t invest in it.

Li Kuo Hsing, chairman of Mei Ah Entertainment Group Ltd., said, ”Investing in movies is gambling. I have gambled for several decades.” He pointed out that not every investment in a movie can make a profit; sometimes investing a huge amount of money may not get a reasonable return.

He missed the good chance of investing in “You Are the Apple of My Eye”, but he had success with “Echoes of the Rainbow”. He invested in “Echoes of the Rainbow” because of the social controversial issue of clearing the historical Wing Lee Street in Sheung Wan. However, the movie evoked the audience’s memory of some historical sites and the movie became very famous. He earned a lot from “Echoes of the Rainbow”, which he didn't expect to make big profit.

Li said that there would be a new cycle, which would includes a movie of a youth topic in the movie industry every several years. A movie which talks about life in the past can arouse resonance with the audience.

“I am happy no matter whether I earn or lose from investment of a movie. I have gambled for a long time,” said Li.
