Yiu Yun Man, Executive Director of Actors' Family, indicated that shortage of talents, funds, venues and audiences have become the main obstacles to further development of drama in Hong Kong.

Speaking from Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Yiu pointed out that there were no formal training institutions for musicals and no regular practicing venue. At present, most of the tropes could only rent theatre, halls for performance through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

‘This has led to a serious shortage of drama and musical actors in Hong Kong. The inadequate facility and funds are no longer to support long-term performance of troupes,’ Yiu said.

She repeated, it was really difficult for the theatre, performers to expand their audience and promote the drama culture. ’Art, drama isn’t profitable. But is that mean we don’t have to pay attention to it, just because it won’t make money for Hong Kong?’ Yiu wondered.

You doubted whether art performers, local arts culture could continue to develop in Hong Kong. But she still believed art is about human lives and hoped the public could learn to embrace arts and cultures.
