Research is very essential for the society, but the founder of Wallace Academic Editing said that it is more important for researchers to keep the paper short and clear on Tuesday on Hong Kong Shue Yan University.

The main reason for rejection is poor English

“The main reason of International journal rejected the research papers written by Hong Kong researchers because of poor English”, Dr. Steve Wallace said. Wallace said that the editors thought the topic was very good when they read the research paper at the beginning. When they started reading, they felt so painful and wanted to close the research paper. It is so risk that the research paper is too long because audiences are easy to sleep”, Wallace said.

Simple meaning is important for research paper

Wallace said that one of the weaknesses of research paper was redundancy. Hong Kong researchers were using too many words to write the paper. “No one likes long article, same as the editors”, Wallace said. Therefore, it is very careful to use short sentences to remain the simple meaning on the paper, Wallace said. “Academic journal is different writing style from others such as novels. The writers of novels would use a lot of beautiful adjectives to give readers’ feeling. However, research paper only gives readers to get some points about the issues", Wallace said.

Short and clear are the most essential elements

Wallace emphasized that there were two concerns as a technical writer, which are short and clear. If the meaning stayed the same, researchers should keep it short. Besides, English has shades of meaning so researchers should make every sentence clear, Wallace said.
